CM Punk Hints At UFC 225 Return In Chicago
CM Punk strongly hints at a return for June 9's UFC 225 fight card via Twitter. More details here.
Phil Brooks, more popularly known as CM Punk, has indicated he will return to the Octagon for a sophomore appearance in the UFC on June 9 at UFC 225. The pay-per-view card is set to take place in Punk's hometown of Chicago.
Punk, who dropped his UFC debut to Mickey Gall in September 2016, took to social media to tease his return bout.
"June nine, after I win and lock eyes with my beautiful wife, embrace my coaches and shout out my entire team," Punk wrote on Twitter as a response to a now-deleted tweet asking him "when are we gonna see you cry again in the Octagon?"
Since the announcement of UFC 225's location, there have been plenty of rumors and discussion of Punk making his return in Chicago, so the news doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
The big question is: Who will Punk face?
The most outspoken fighter campaigning for the fight has been Mike “The Truth” Jackson, who has openly discussed the possibility of fighting Punk on multiple occasions.
"I really think Punk wants another fight," Jackson told FloCombat back in February. "Going into this I never wanted to discredit his intentions. I don't think it was something he just wanted to try out. I believe in my heart he was ready to commit to this. I have all the respect for the dude for stepping out of his world and taking a big step into another world.
"I feel he genuinely wanted to pursue this, but he didn't like the outcome of the first fight. The fight went a bit longer than I expected, but it's exactly how I expected it to happen. I think he wants to give it another shot."
We will have to see if his wish comes true.
UFC 225 will be held at Chicago’s United Center, home of the NBA's Bulls and NHL's Blackhawks. The main card will air on pay-per-view. Additional announcements for the event are expected to come in the coming weeks.
