Lion Fight 42 took place at the Fox Theater in Mashantucket, CT, Saturday, April 21, with the main card airing live on FloCombat.com. 

The event featured four title fights from one of the premier Muay Thai promotions on the planet. 

In the main event, Antonina Shevchenko, the sister of UFC title challenger Valentina Shevchenko, defended the Lion Fight women’s world lightweight title against Claire Baxter. Shevchenko was ready to make a statement, with the beginning of her own UFC career just around the corner. 

In the co-main event, Amadeu Cristiano took on Eddie Abasolo for the Lion Fight North American middleweight title, while the main card also featured Carlton Lieu vs. Jafar Toshev for the MTGP world super lightweight title and Steve Walker vs. Olivier Fairtex for the Lion Fight North American super cruiserweight title.

Shevchenko came out of her corner in the southpaw stance before immediately landing a leg trip and establishing her attack. 

Baxter was not intimidated, however, continuing to push forward against the champ. Both women were willing to engage and found themselves with a hard-fought contest in the clinch. Shevchenko had the early advantage, but Baxter wouldn’t back down. Baxter was finding a home for her leg kicks, but Shevchenko consistently fired back with some heavy counter strikes.

Ultimately, the two women had a competitive, close fight that went to the judges with Shevchenko retaining her title.
