Warfare MMA 16
Top MMA prospects Hannah Scoggins (4-0) and Da'Mon Blackshear (4-0) took over FloCombat for Warfare MMA 16, Saturday, Aug. 19, on FloCombat. While both entered with spotless records, it didn't stay that way in the aftermath. Here's what went down.
Da'Mon Blackshear had his work cut out for him in the Warfare MMA 16 main event. Taking on Bellator MMA veteran Keith Richardson, Blackshear repeatedly met resistance and counters as he implemented his offensive attack.

Blackshear was able to dictate the pace of the fight in spots, scoring with various punches and kicks from range. And while there wasn't much in terms of all-out action, this was a technical fight which saw each man find his openings and score with shots. Richardson certainly never backed down, winging hard counters of his own. He also scored a takedown in Round 5 and worked a strong top game from there, which may have sealed the victory for him.

In a split decision, Richardson took home the South Carolina state bantamweight championship after 25 minutes of back-and-forth fighting.

Before Blackshear and Richardson took the cage, Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard Joe Solecki showcased his savvy ground attack in full. Facing Eric Calderon, Solecki needed no time to take the fight to the mat, and from there, it was game over. Solecki immediately worked to the back and sunk in the rear-naked choke, forcing Calderon to tap out.

Also on the professional card, Marvin Skipper, Cody Jones, and Brandon Bushaw all earned dominant first-round stoppages.

Of note on the amateur side of things, previously undefeated Hannah Scoggins, wife to UFC flyweight Justin Scoggins, suffered her first career defeat to Samantha Hughes.

The 19-year-old Scoggins showcased much of what earned her the strawweight strap and a spotless 4-0 record, flashing quick hands and smooth kicks along with a dangerous ground game, but she repeatedly succumbed to the pressure and power of Hughes.

Hughes stuck to her game plan and worked Scoggins to the cage time and again, scoring from the clinch and earning several takedowns en route to a unanimous decision victory. It wasn't flashy, but it was the perfect strategy to pull off something nobody had done to this point -- defeat Hannah Scoggins.

In the night's third title fight, Jevany Hyde scored a brutal finish over the ever-tough-and-gritty Jordan Weeks to win the amateur South Carolina State welterweight title. If we're calling out a Fight of the Night, this might just be it, as both fighters had their moments and refused to back down. Hyde simply took over as the fight progressed and slowly wore Weeks down before exploding for the vicious finish along the cage.
