An exciting bantamweight showdown looks to be heading to the Great White North and will feature a hometown fighter.
The buzz behind UFC Vancouver is already sky high with the event’s headliner being announced last week between Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje. As the fight card continues to round itself out, a 135-pound showdown between Cole Smith and Miles Johns is in the works for the event, sources have confirmed to FloCombat.
UFC Vancouver will take place Sept. 14 at Rogers Arena and will air on ESPN+.
Smith will look to make it a perfect 2-0 in his UFC career, and 8-0 overall in front of his hometown fans. “The Cole Train” made his UFC debut on short notice when he took on Mitch Gagnon at UFC Ottawa in May. The former Battlefield Fight League bantamweight champion would win the fight by unanimous decision and proved himself to be a fighter to watch in the already loaded bantamweight division.
Johns will make his UFC debut after an impressive performance on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. “Chapo” took on Richie Santiago last month on the second episode of the season, picking up a dominant unanimous decision win and earned a contract from UFC president Dana White. The former LFA bantamweight champion has won all 10 of his professional fights.
