TJ Dillashaw Doesn't Think Demetrious Johnson Wants 'Challenge'
TJ Dillashaw sounds off with TMZ Sports on a potential bout vs. Demetrious Johnson, saying the UFC flyweight champ is ducking him.
TJ Dillashaw fights Cody Garbrandt Aug. 4 at UFC 227 in a high-stakes rematch, but there's another bout currently hanging in the balance for the UFC bantamweight champ.
Dillashaw and flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson were briefly linked to a fight, and fans buzzed at the idea of a champion vs. champion super fight between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters on earth.
However, the scrap ultimately never materialized, and now Dillashaw will face Garbrandt while Johnson will face Henry Cejudo on the same card.
Johnson previously defeated Cejudo via first-round TKO at UFC 197 in April of 2016.
Given all this context, some fans and critics feel Johnson is ducking Dillashaw. Is the flyweight king afraid to put his winning streak and his skills on the line vs. a bigger knockout artist like Dillashaw?
Speaking with TMZ Sports, the 135-pound champ discussed.
"I do believe so [that Johnson is ducking me]," Dillashaw said. "I believe that he's comfortable where he's at, he's comfortable fighting the guys he's fighting. I think I bring a real threat to the table that he's not willing to accept. He's got that target on his back like you said, and I'm chasing him down. I don't think he wants the challenge."
