The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to make its debut in Perth, Australia, on Feb. 11 for UFC 221 at Perth Arena.
UFC 221 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between undisputed champion Robert Whittaker, an Australia native, and former titleholder Luke Rockhold.
The main event came to fruition after Georges St-Pierre announced he was vacating the 185-pound title last week.
St-Pierre’s decision led to Whittaker being promoted to the undisputed titleholder and set up a dream scenario for the UFC’s debut in Perth.
On Tuesday, Whittaker and Rockhold came together for the first time to promote their bout at the pre-fight press conference.
"It's going to be a hard fight. I know this," said Whittaker, the promotion’s first-ever Australian champion, as transcribed by Perth Times. "But we're going to go out there and give a good show."
There are few bouts officially announced for the pay-per-view event, which will reportedly start at 11 AM local time in Perth, with Tyson Pedro vs. Saparbek Safarov and Jussier Formiga vs. Ben Nguyen the only other bouts currently listed. Additional bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
