UFC Onboard For Jimi Manuwa vs. David Haye?
The UFC might be warming up to a bout between Jimi Manuwa and boxing star David Haye.
Just days before the biggest boxing match in recent memory between Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua, UFC light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa said there’s another British heavyweight he’s looking to throw down against. And if he’s telling the truth, the UFC doesn’t have an issue with the fight taking place.
After a recent knockout of Corey Anderson, the English light heavyweight made clear what he wanted next in calling out world-caliber boxer David Haye. The two have reportedly been in talks for weeks now.
“I spoke to him (Haye) last week when I was in Vegas with Dana (White), and Dana liked the numbers, what can be generated through this event,” Manuwa said. “We’re planning on making it happen. David Haye is out and about walking, he’s back walking now after his injury. We’re doing everything we can to make it happen.”
The injury Manuwa is referring to is a horrific achilles tear that Haye suffered in his bout with Tony Bellew in March. After winning the early portion of the bout, Haye fell awkwardly and fought the remainder of the bout in a clearly damaged state before his corner mercifully stopped the bout.
Manuwa added that he believes the fight would be big enough to hold their own in London, England and wouldn’t need to be paired with the highly talked about Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor bout that is expected for later this year.
Manuwa is patiently waiting for his crack at the UFC light heavyweight title after it was announced that a returning Jon Jones would be next up for champion Daniel Cormier.
