Demetrious Johnson is the undisputed king of the flyweight division, but on Saturday night, “Mighty Mouse” officially moved into the UFC record books.

The reigning and defending 125-pound champion trucked title challenger Wilson Reis to notch his 10th consecutive successful title defense and tie the record set by former middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

The Brazilian striker carved out his place during the run that cemented Silva as one of the greatest of all time, and Johnson’s trail of destruction is certainly on par with the greatest “The Spider” brought to the cage.

Johnson came into his showdown with Reis at UFC on Fox 24 on the brink of history, but with a tough customer standing in his path. Yet, in typical Johnson fashion, the Matt Hume-trained fighter made his job look easy.

Johnson stayed on the outside away from Reis’ power, then found the perfect windows to close the distance and sting with one combination after the next. By the end of the second round the damage on Reis’ face was clear and the challenger began to wilt under the champion’s constant pressure and pace.

The flyweight king’s ground and pound attack had Reis on the ropes in the third, before Johnson locked in an armbar to end the bout to tie the record.

With gold on his waist and a foot in the history books, the bigger question looming comes in the next step for the pound-for-pound great. Johnson has all but cleared out the 125-pound ranks during his reign of dominance, and with potential super fights looming with other divisional champions, it will be interesting to see if Johnson will chose to stay put at flyweight to go for the official record, or heighten the occasion by making his run at history into a mega-watt showdown.
