UFC on Fox 24: Rose Namajunas Brutalizes Michelle Waterson
UFC strawweight contender Rose Namajunas steamrolled Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox 24.
Rose Namajunas returned with a vengeance at UFC on Fox 24.
The Ultimate Fighter alum turned perennial contender returned from eight months on the sidelines to face Michelle Waterson on Saturday night in Kansas City. The two top-ranked strawweights collided in a highly anticipated scrap that was figured to play a huge role in selecting the next contender for the women’s 115-pound title.
And if that is the case, the Namajunas freighttrain which rolled over Waterson on Saturday night will have a ton of momentum to carry her to title contention.
While Waterson is still somewhat of a newcomer in the UFC ranks, a huge media push in the lead up to UFC on Fox 24 created a strong buzz for the Jackson/Winkeljohn fighter. There was plenty of hype floating around the MMA sphere and it took Namajunas less than two full rounds to bring a harsh dose of reality.
It was all Namajunas from the opening bell as she battered Waterson on the feet and drubbed the “Karate Hottie” on the ground. Coming out in the second frame Namajunas connected on a right head kick that flattened Waterson and sparked the beginning of the end. Namajunas worked for a dominant position to finish and stamped the victory with a rear-naked choke that forced Waterson to tap.
With the win Namajunas has now found success in four of her last five showings, and her case for getting a shot at the title much stronger following UFC on Fox 24.
