Michael Bisping Thinks GSP's Master Plan Involves Conor McGregor Fight
UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping intends to spoil the big plans of Georges St-Pierre.
Michael Bisping has never been one to bite his tongue.
The UFC middleweight champion is known for speaking his mind nearly as much as he's known he is for being a force of nature inside the Octagon. The hard-charging Brit's trash-talk game is among the best in MMA history, and Bisping has been able to back up his words at large clip throughout his storied career. Simply put: When something is on Bisping's mind he's going to speak on it, and the most common subject as of late has been Georges St-Pierre.
The former welterweight king and pound-for-pound great recently announced his return from a three-year hiatus from the cage to fight Bisping sometime in 2017. While there is yet to be anything official (date, event, bout agreement) signed, both Bisping and St-Pierre are planning for a showdown inside the Octagon. Furthermore, Bisping believes St-Pierre's jump up to the middleweight ranks isn't a permanent situation, but one piece in a game plan that would put the French Canadian in the biggest money fights imaginable.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Bisping laid out what he believes St-Pierre's plans to be, then confidently announced his plans to ruin everything.
“Here’s what I think GSP’s plan is,” Bisping said. “He comes back, he fights me, he beats me. In the time that takes, Demian Maia beats Jorge Masvidal then he fights Tyron Woodley. [St-Pierre] believes – because he said this – that Maia beats Woodley. Then, from him fighting me, he fights Maia, relinquishes the 185-pound belt, then he goes for the 170 belt. He fights Maia because stylistically it’s a good fight for him because Georges is a great wrestler and he’s very, very accomplished at jiu-jitsu. I think he can do what I’m going to do to GSP, stop his takedowns and win the fight on the feet.
“Then from there – he’s spoke about this – then he’s gonna relinquish that and then fight Conor McGregor for the lightweight belt. That is his master plan, I guarantee it. And if he can pull it off, then he would definitely go down as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in history. I do think that after that, he’s gonna fight at his weight class – 170 – and then go for the big, big money fight against Conor, which would be almost as big as, maybe, Conor vs. Floyd. That would do bigger numbers than Conor vs. Nate Diaz. It would be massive.
“You’ve gotta look at the dollars and cents. That, for [the UFC] – because me and Conor are never going to fight. I’m way too big, I’d slap him around silly, let’s be honest. But GSP, that’s fathomable. That could very, very easily happen, and if I own the company, that’s what I want. But I’m gonna rain on the parade. I’m gonna take a big s*** on that bonfire.”
