Bibiano Fernandes Picking Angela Lee at ONE: Warrior Kingdom
Bibiano Fernandes Picking Angela Lee at ONE: Warrior Kingdom
Bantamweight star Bibiano Fernandes believes Angela Lee will emerge victorious at ONE: Warrior Kingdom.
It’s a massive week ahead for ONE Championship and their first ever ONE atomweight world champion, Angela Lee.
Lee (6-0) defends her title for the first time this Saturday when she takes on the undefeated Jenny Huang (5-0) at ONE: Warrior Kingdom in Bangkok, Thailand.
Lee, 20, is not only ONE’s first ever women’s champion, but also the youngest ever MMA world champion in the history of the sport and has garnered attention worldwide by fans and media for her maturity both inside and outside of the cage.
Another ONE Championship champion who’s been impressed by Lee is the current ONE bantamweight world champion, Bibiano Fernandes. The Brazilian is thought by many to be one of the best bantamweights in the world and has not been beaten since 2010.
Fernandes, 36, has been there and dine it all fighting across the continent of Asia and he likes what he’s seen so far from Lee. Speaking exclusively to FloCombat last week, Fernandes said he believes Lee could be the company’s next big star and that he was tipping her to be very successful.
“You know, I respect all the guys there, but Angela Lee, that girl, she can be pretty good too,” Fernandes said. “She’s a young girl, she’s 20 now, [but] I think she could be the next one, yeah maybe she can be the next one.
“She has to get through some more challengers [to prove it], but if she gets past those challenges I think she will be for sure. ONE Championship have a lot of young guys there, but Angela Lee, I think she’s really good.”
For Lee set to face Huang in just four days, someone’s ‘0’ will have to go. Fernandes gave his prediction for the fight and unsurprisingly given his previous comments he didn’t need all that long to make his pick.
“I’m going to pick her for sure, yeah Angela Lee for sure,” Fernandes said without thinking. “She’s more complete. She can strike, she can do wrestling and I think she has very good jiu-jitsu.
“Angela Lee, if we are speak[ing] about mixed martial arts is the better mixed martial artist.”
