Jack Marshman Responds To Sam Alvey's Callout
Jack Marshman responds to Sam Alvey's UFC on Fox 23 callout and welcomes a fight with him.
After picking up his fourth straight victory at UFC on Fox 23 last month, many expected UFC middleweight Sam Alvey to set his sights on calling out a big name for his record-breaking sixth UFC fight in a under year.
What followed wasn't exactly what many, if anyone, anticipated, and Alvey proceeded to call out Welshman Jack Marshman. The former Cage Warriors middleweight is a relative newcomer to the UFC, having only made his debut in the promotion at UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in November of last year.

Suffice to say, many were left scratching their heads at Alvey's choice on the night. Though he later retracted the callout and instead honed in on No. 11-ranked Krzysztof Jotko, his earlier request on the microphone inside the Octagon didn't fall on deaf ears.
Speaking to Jim Edwards of FloCombat earlier today, Marshman said he was well aware of the Alvey's callout and said he'd be more than happy to throw down with Alvey in less than a months' time. Unfortunately for Marshman, he didn't seem to quite have Alvey's name on the top of his tongue; neither was he apparently aware that Alvey is already booked in a fight with Thales Leites on April 22.
"Yeah, yeah I seen it that that he was calling me out and stuff," said Marshman, who is fighting Brazilian Thiago Santos at UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Sunday night. "That's good for me you know. I've had one fight in the UFC, and I've [already] got guys who are like on five fight win streaks know who I am and want to fight me because they think I'm a big fight for them.
"I can't complain really, and Sam Alvery, it's like I said, if I can get this guy out of there quickly on the weekend then I'll beg because Sam Alvery really wants to fight in Europe. I will literally beg to be on that London card [March 18] in four weeks time because if Sam is good to go and I'm good to go then we can do it."
While aware of Alvey's callout, the Welshman was also keen to point out it wasn't just him that had placed a target on his back. Marshman is a man in demand, and he's even getting callouts from closer to home.
"100 percent I'll be saying that [Alvey fight] if I get an interview after," Marshman said, speaking about his fight this weekend. "John Phillips is another one that called me out as well. I got a bit of a target on my back. That's a good thing I guess. Everyone wants to fight me, because I'm the new kid on the block. It doesn't bother me; I take it as a compliment you know."
