Max Holloway Gunning For Jose Aldo, UFC Hawaii
Interim UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway still in pursuit of unification bout with fellow champion Jose Aldo.
Max Holloway captured interim featherweight gold in 2016, but rest assured, in 2017 the Hawaiian plans to take things to another level.
The interim UFC featherweight champion is in town at Super Bowl LI this week and along with many other of his UFC counterparts, Holloway has been put in front of the gathered media to talk about his year ahead.
Following a random drug test by USADA shortly after his arrival at the NRG stadium in Houston, Holloway sat down with UFC on Fox to talk about his upcoming year. The interim champ started by providing an update on his pursuit of Jose Aldo to unify the titles and he said that he was still calling upon his fans to help him chase the fight down.
"Yeah, hashtag where's Jose Waldo," Holloway joked. "Help your boy out finding him. Tag your Mom, tag your grandma, tag your aunt, your uncle. Hashtag UFC Hawaii at the same time and let's get one down there and let's get Aldo out of hiding you know?
"I don't know where that guy has been, you know? Maybe he's changed his name to Patrick and he's living under a rock somewhere. I don't know what's going on."
Holloway made it very clear straight after capturing the interim belt in December that he wished to face Aldo to unify the titles, but the Brazilian has yet to respond in public about whether he'd be prepared to take the fight.
With Holloway now fresh, healthy and ready to go, it's the only fight on his mind right now he said he'd do anything to make it happen.
"I want him bad, that's the next fight we want and it's the next fight that makes sense," Holloway said. "He's got a belt, I got a belt, so let's see who the real king is you know. Let's see who the real king is at 145 and I'm waiting."
After revealing he'd then be starring in the movie 'Den of Thieves', Holloway went back to his campaigning for a fight with Aldo. Although he said he was ecstatic to be taking the big screen role, he said the only reason he accepted it was due to the delay in Aldo responding to his challenge.
"Like I said, we'll be shooting that thing in March, but first things first you know, we gotta find that guy," Holloway said. "So help me out, go back to hashtag where's Jose Waldo and let your boy know when you find him. He's taking a long time to pop up so that's why we took this movie role."
As ever, the featherweight title discussion didn't go without mention of the former champion Conor McGregor. Asked whether he was gunning for a rematch with the Irishman, Holloway confirmed he was, but that he wasn't going to be someone that chased McGregor down begging to fight.
"At the of the day I gotta get that fight," Holloway replied, answering a question as to whether he think he would beat the Irishman in a rematch. "His coach [and] his whole team man, his coach says I'm the best f*cking 145 fighter in the world. [Holloway says something in Hawaiian].
"His own coach talks about it and that fights going to happen. Me and him have some unfinished business. He blames something for not knocking me out and people don't know so much but I was also injured in that fight. He can come see me when he wants to--I'm not begging him saying "Conor please come and fight me". You don't sound a man. I want to become my own money fight and when he wants to go at it again, I'll be ready."
