British boxing could have world champion this weekend when Chris Eubank Jr. takes on Australia’s Renold Quinlan for the IBO super-middleweight title in London, England.

Having built an impressive record of 23-1 since his debut in Nov. 2011, Eubank will be fighting for his first ever world title on the first ever U.K. terrestrial TV pay-per-view event. Speaking exclusively to FloCombat, Eubank said this was the start of a special journey both for him and British boxing.

“It’s exciting, it’s unknown territory,” Eubank said. “I’ve never fought at super middleweight before and my first fight is going to be for a world title so it’s exciting stuff. Quinlan has been walking around saying he’s going to come over to England and knock me out so it’s a big test for me.

“It’s the beginning of a long and successful journey for me. Once I become the IBO super-middleweight world champion, a lot of doors are going to open for me and a lot of opportunities. I’m going to be taking them with both hands and I can’t wait.”

Having fought all his previous twenty-four professional bouts at middleweight, Eubank will be taking his first ever fight at super-middleweight when he takes on the Australian this weekend. While the British fighter is aware he will be stepping into the ring with a bigger man, he’s confident he has ability to overcome the size disadvantage.

“As far my weight, I’m not actually building up any weight to take the step up,” Eubank said. “I walk around pretty much a couple of pounds over the middleweight limit so I won’t have to cut weight for this fight. When I fight at middleweight I have to lose weight by cutting down on my food intake and watching the carbs or anything sweet. I just don’t have to do that for this fight which is nice.

“At the same time, I’m aware that I’m going into the ring with guys that are bigger and will be cutting down from like fourteen stone. They are naturally bigger, but as far I’m concerned my speed, my agility and my defense that’s what’s going to be a big factor as to why I’m able to overcome these super middleweights. It’s something I’ve always dealt with and I’ve always sparred with bigger guys. I know I can neutralize their strength with my technique and the way I fight. All I have to do is stay focused.”

While some fans have criticized the decision to put the bout on pay-per-view, Eubank has urged the U.K. fans to get behind him and says that he’s going to be proud flying the British flag high on Saturday night.

“Boxing in my opinion is the best sport in the world and I believe I’ve the opportunity to reach the true masses this weekend,” Eubank said. “Everyone who has terrestrial TV has this channel and they will be exposed to me and to British boxing.

“I’m going to represent and I’m going to fly the flag. I’m going to put on some exciting and devastating performances. It’s going to be a huge event and there’s a solid undercard. Come support the cause. There’s so much great British boxing talent and now we have a huge platform on which to get everybody the maximum exposure. So get behind it and enjoy the ride.”
