Dillon Danis Feeling Bellator, Sends Warning to Rory MacDonald
Grappling ace Dillon Danis sounds off on Rory MacDonald and former UFC champion Jon Jones.
Dillon Danis is hot off the back of a win at Submission Underground 3 this weekend and it's seemingly only fueled the talk of when he will enter the MMA arena.
Having defeat AJ Agazarm in overtime last weekend in Portland, Danis joined his good friends over at Submission Radio to discuss the match and get an update on his potential transition into MMA. After revealing he was fielding multiple offers from different organizations, Danis said he'd received an offer from Bellator and that the talk from their new signing Rory MacDonald had spiked his interest.
"I heard Rory MacDonald was saying some stuff about me, so I might have to go slap him up a little bit," Danis said. "I'm thinking about doing that with Bellator, but, you know, I'm just keeping my options open."
Danis then revealed how he'd take MacDonald and suggested his tactics wouldn't change regardless of the man in front of him. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt said it was all a matter of taking his man down and tapping him out.
"That's what I'm going to do with everyone," Danis said. "I'm going to try and take them down and submit them. I feel like anybody in the world I can do that. We've seen him against Demian Maia taken down over and over again and passed pretty easily so, I mean if I get him down it's over. That's how I see that going."
With so many options of contracts on the table, Danis said he'd be taking his time to find the right one that suits. Asked if the Bellator offer was the most suitable so far, Danis admitted it was.
"I mean, I would say so," Danis said, when asked if the Bellator offer was the current front runner. "There are a lot of them, but I just like the idea of it because of what Rory MacDonald was saying that 'These jiu-jitsu guys better…', I don't know what he said, but he better watch what he says because I'm going to come there and we are going to see what he says when I'm in there with him."
Asked how far the talks had gone so far, Danis said they were still very much in the preliminary stages and that he still had some goals left in jiu-jitsu that he hadn't yet achieved.
"They are just through negotiations with my manager and stuff," Danis said. "It's all just talk right now, but trust me, if I want to do it, then I'll do it. Right now it's just all negotiations.
"I still have some goals in jiu-jitsu at the Worlds and Pan Ams, but like I said before, if the money is right I will do it. It was the same thing with this Submission Underground thing. I took the money, I don't like the rule-set necessarily, but money talks."
Shortly after his win at Submission Underground 3, Danis was interviewed inside the cage by Chael Sonnen. After giving his thoughts on the match with AJ, Danis signed off with a clear message to former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones who'd it been feuding with over social media in the past few weeks. Danis explained why he said what he did.
"Yeah, I mean, I said it because he called me a douchebag and that's just how I felt," Danis said. "At the end of the day it doesn't matter who it is, they're all going to get it. I said that at Polaris.
"One by one I'm going to get every one of them. At the end of the day they're all going to get it, it doesn't matter who it is. That's just how I felt in the moment."
Despite the two constantly going back and forth over Twitter, few are convinced the match will ever come together. Danis, however, thinks it could, but said that if it were to happen, Jones will have to be the one that chases him for it.
"I feel like he might take it--I don't see why not," Danis said. "The people want it, obviously, we've seen that everybody wants to see it so I'll be here. He just has to come beg me like I said. I'm the one that has the numbers. I'm the one that brings all the people to watch, in the grappling world at least, so he has to come and beg me.
"From what I heard was they [SUG] told him about it and he just didn't want it. So, in my eyes I see fear. When someone doesn't want to fight someone, it's just basically, that's all fear. I'm going to leave him alone. I feel like I might be bullying him a little bit, so I'll leave the little guy alone for a little bit."
