Richardson HItchins Signs With Mayweather Promotions
Richardson Hitchins latest Mayweather Promotions’ signing.
While Floyd Mayweather may continue to claim to be done with boxing, it doesn’t mean he’s done with the boxing world.
On Jan. 30, Mayweather Promotions announced the signing of 19-year-old boxer Richardson Hitchins. He’ll join IBF junior lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack, Ashley Theophane and Mickey Bey Jr. in the ever-growing Mayweather Promotions stable.
Hitchings will debut on March 4 on the undercard of Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.
"Mayweather Promotions is pleased to announce another addition to our growing stable of exciting fighters," said Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe. "Hitchins is a star in the making and we are in a position to get him to world champion status."
After failing to make the U.S. Olympic boxing team, Brooklyn-born Hitchins represented his parent’s home nation of Haiti in the 2016 Rio Olympics. He fell to U.S.A’s Gary Antuanne Russell.
Hitchins took up boxing at 12 to avoid some of the less desirable activities taking place in his community. As an amateur, he twice won the New York Daily New Golden Gloves, one of the most prestigious amateur boxing tournaments in the United States. He was forced to settle for silver at the world qualifying championships for the Olympics, which took place in Azerbaijan.
"I am a product of my environment, it's built me to where I am today and it's no mistake I'm this good,” Hitchins said via press release. “I'm just happy to work with a team who is in a place to help me achieve my goals as a fighter.”
According to the Mayweather Promotions’ press release, Hitchins has worked with famed boxers Terence Crawford, Sadam Ali and Luiz Collazo throughout his short career, which is what garnered him the attention of Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions.
