Young Edges Out Patrick at Rumble at the Roseland 90
Abasi Young edges out Thomas Patrick to close out action at Rumble at the Roseland 90.
The Rumble at The Roseland 90 marked the official 15-year celebration of Full Contact Fighting Federation, the first mixed martial arts promotion in the state of Oregon. To celebrate in style, FCFF topped off the show with two title fights to find new owners for the vacant flyweight and lightweight titles.
The five-round main event would see Abasi Young and Thomas Patrick battle it out over the course of five three-minute rounds for the vacant FCFF Lightweight Championship. The pair covered every inch of the cage exchanging hard strikes and wild grappling scrambles. Patrick would get the better of Young early on by securing takedowns and winning positions on the mat. Never contempt with a position on the mat, Young battled back to his feet time and time again to get the fight standing, where he had the most success.
Young opened a cut on Patrick in the fourth round, spilling blood in the center of the gold canvas. Carrying that momentum, Young's best frame was the fifth and final round where he landed hard shots on the feet causing heavy damage. Patrick proved his toughness as time would expire, sending the fight to the scorecards.
Ultimately, the judges would be split in their decision, with two of the officials seeing the bout in favor of Young, crowning him the new FCFF Lightweight Champion.
The co-main event pitted a pair of exciting flyweights in Justin Hubbard and Isiaah Garza to crown a new FCFF Flyweight Champion. Hubbard missed weight by a half pound, making him ineligible to win the title, however, the technicality would not come into play as Garza ended the fight quickly in the first round with a slick ankle lock submission.
