Brian Rogers and Devonte Smith Look to Shine at RFO: Big Guns 22
Veterans Brian Rogers and Devonte Smith look to make a push back to the big leagues at RFO: Big Guns 22.
Revelation Fight Organization kicks off their 2017 with "Big Guns 22" which emanates from Fairhavenn Hall in Mansfield, Ohio Saturday and airs live here in Flo Combat.
Along with Bellator veteran Brian Rogers competing in his home state, this card also features an amateur title fight and a number of rising prospects. Here are three reasons to watch RFO: Big Guns 22.
In the main event, Brian "The Professional Predator" Rogers competes outside the Bellator cage for the first time since 2011 as he battles late replacement Lewis Rumsey.
Rogers (12-9) will be looking for redemption as the Factory X product has gone 2-2 in his last four fights and will no doubt look to make a statement in his home state of Ohio. At 32-years of age, Rogers needs to secure a victory on Saturday night if he wants to remain relevant in the 205lb division. Rumsey (13-14) replaces Marvin Lemock, who pulled out of the fight a few days ago. Since losing four in a row, Rumsey rebounded with back-to-back victories over the same opponent (William Vincent).
The 27-year old has fought the likes of former UFC fighters Dan Spohn and Chris Dempsey, as well as current UFC heavyweight Adam Milstead.
A matchup that has 'Fight of the Night' written all over it, undefeated lightweight Devonte "Johnny Kage" Smith battles fellow undefeated fighter John Gunther. Smith (4-0) trains out of Evolve MMA and had an impressive 2016 earning knockout wins over Mike Wiseman, Fred Stonehouse and most recently Xavier Nash at Pinnacle FC 14. Gunther (4-0) comes out of rival gym Strong Style MMA, home to UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
"The Machine" old won back-to- back fights in 2016, earning a unanimous decision over Portland Pringle III and most recently earned a first round submission victory over Luke Ransbottom at Big Guns 18. Perhaps the only difference in this fight is age, with Smith being 23-years old and Gunther being 31. Expect the winner of this matchup to get a call up to one of the bigger promotions.
The vacant bantamweight title is up for grabs when undefeated Brian Hauser takes on Victor Christian.
Hauser (5-0) heads into this matchup with an unblemished record that includes four victories by stoppage. Training out of Evolve MMA with Devonte Smith, the 26-year-old is coming off a first round submission due to strikes against Brian Burke at New League Fights: Resurgence. Christian (3-1) has earned all three of his wins by knockout, including a win over Nic Lute at Cage Maddness 45 in his last fight.
Neither of these fighters are afraid to stand and bang, so expect a striking clinic in this championship matchup.
