Ev Ting Faces Noted Veteran In Lightweight Debut At ONE: Throne of Tigers
Rising prospect Ev Ting takes on lightweight veteran Kamal Shalorus Feb. 10 at ONE: Throne of Tigers.
ONE Championship kicks off its 2017 calendar on Jan. 14 with ONE: Quest for Power, but before fight week gets underway in Indonesia, the promotion has made a big announcement for its February show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
ONE: Throne of Tigers will take place in the Stadium Negara on Feb. 10 and will feature a main event of Ev Ting taking on lightweight veteran Kamal Shalorus.
This news comes one week after it was announced that Angela Lee would headline a ONE Championship card set for March card in Bangkok, Thailand. We are only two weeks into the new year, but the ONE Championship calendar is coming together nicely with fight cards set across the region.
"It's always an amazing time when the team is in Kuala Lumpur, because Malaysian fans are so intensely passionate about MMA that the atmosphere in the stadium just hits a fever pitch," Victor Cui, CEO of ONE Championship said via press release. "We can't wait to be back in February. Ev Ting is the biggest Malaysian MMA star right now, and he is poised for another thrilling performance."
Ting (12-3) is a mixed martial artist of Malaysian heritage, though he now lives and trains out of Auckland, New Zealand.

The Malaysian is currently riding a three-fight winning streak with victories over Honorio Banario, Eric Kelly and Rob Lisita. Eight of his 12 professional victories have come by finish, including four submissions and four knockouts. His last two contests have been the main event, though he's yet to fight for the ONE featherweight title despite owning a 6-1 record in the organization.
Seemingly, Ting has now set his sights on the ONE lightweight division as he makes the step up to 155 pounds for the first time in his career to take on Shalorus.
The 39-year-old veteran Shalorus hails from Iran and has a 9-4-2 professional record.
His last outing in the ONE cage came back in August 2014, when he was submitted by Shinya Aoki in the first round of their lightweight title fight at ONE: Reign of Champions. Prior to that, Shalorus had won his previous two ONE fights, with victories over Ariel Sexton and Eduard Folayang coming in 2013 and 2012, respectively.
The Iranian is a UFC veteran with losses to Rafael dos Anjos, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Jim Miller on his record. He left the organization in May 2012 and joined ONE Championship one year later, when he faced Folayang in his debut.
This fight with Ting could well be Shalorus' last throw of the dice at making a run at a ONE Championship world title, and it all goes down Feb. 10.
