Late Replacement Set to Face Vitaly Bigdash at ONE: Quest for Power
ONE Championship middleweight contender Marcin Prachnio will be replaced by Aung La N Sang at ONE: Quest for Power.
ONE Championship announced this morning that middleweight contender Marcin Prachnio has suffered an injury and is out of ONE: Quest for Power set for Jan. 14 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Despite the fight card being only 11 days away, the event will continue as planned with a rescheduled main event. Now, ONE middleweight world champion Vitaly Bigdash will defend his title against the "The Burmese Python" Aung La N Sang of Myanmar.
Speaking about Prachnio's injury on Tuesday, ONE Championship CEO Victor Cui admitted it was setback but promised the event would still provide fireworks.
"While it is unfortunate that Marcin Prachnio has fallen to injury, fans of 'The Burmese Python' have every reason to be excited, as Yangon's own martial arts hero Aung La N Sang has been tapped for the main event against ONE middleweight world champion Vitaly Bigdash," Cui said.
"He has definitely earned a shot at ONE Championship gold with his spectacular performances as of late. We're ready to blow the roof off the Jakarta Convention Center. You will not want to miss this."
Hailing from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, Bigdash looks to make the first defense of his title since winning the belt back in October of 2015.
Bigdash defeated former champion Igor Svirid after a back-and-forth affair that was later described as one of the most action-packed fights in ONE Championship history.
Having taken time off to recover from multiple injuries, Bigdash will now step back into the cage to take on Aung La N Sang, who has nothing to lose coming in on super later notice.
The 31-year-old Aung La N Sang was born in Myitkyina in the mountainous Kachin State and belongs to an ethnic minority known as the Kachin.
He has 29 professional bouts under his belt, boasting a record of 19-9 with one no-contest. He is currently on a four-fight winning streak in ONE Championship, with three of the victories coming inside the distance.
Two additional bouts have also been announced on short notice for the ONE: Quest for Power card.
Undefeated Russian lightweight Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev will take on Georgi Stoyanov, while light heavyweight contenders Igor Subora and Sherif Mohamed will also square off Jan. 14.
