Dana White Talks Decision to Allow Ronda Rousey Media Blackout
UFC President Dana White shares his thoughts on allowing Ronda Rousey to skip media day.
Ronda Rousey has done a lot for the UFC and Dana White has no problem paying back the favor.
The UFC President shared those exact thoughts when sitting with the MMA media during a press event for UFC 207 on Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas. According to White, the former women's bantamweight champion has done more media obligations than any other fighter in the promotion's history, and allowing her to skip doing media spots typically required of main event fighters wasn't a difficult decision to make.
White also clarified Rousey's treatment in the lead up to UFC 207 was a special case, and would not change the requirements for the other fighters on the roster. This includes Conor McGregor, who is not only the company's biggest star, but a fighter who has railed against the heavy media schedule time and time again. McGregor went as far as skipping his press tour for UFC 200, and was removed from the lineup entirely.
The UFC frontman sees Rousey and McGregor's situations a bit differently, and has no regrets to giving the most popular female fighter in the world a lighter press schedule. Should the pay-per-view numbers on Rousey's return come in well below expectations, it will be interesting to see how the UFC feels about the "Rowdy" one's antics in the aftermath.
