Mickey Gall: Hype Killer Aims at Golden Child
Upstart Mickey Gall will be looking to derail another hype train against Sage Northcutt at UFC on Fox 22.
UFC welterweight Mickey Gall aims to take the shine from everyone he faces in battle.
The New Jersey born scrapper levels up and steps back into the Octagon to capture even more power when he faces highly promoted prospect Sage
Northcutt at UFC on FOX 22 Saturday night live from Sacramento, California. The no nonsense Gall plans on taking out the UFC’s golden child at
the Golden 1 arena.
“I asked for this fight.” Gall said. “I know it is a great fight for me. I think it’s going to go very well for me. I am going to go out there and throw some heat at him. I’m going to hit him in the head. I’m going to bust him up and make him bleed. I know my ground game is levels above him and I will hurt him on the feet, too. I want to cut him up. We haven’t seen this kid bleed in there yet. I would like to make him bleed a little bit.”
The squeaky clean Northcutt has become one of the UFC’s most hyped fighters in recent memory. To Northcutt everything is always positive and always awesome. You would be hard pressed to find the Texan without a smile on his face or a kind word to say.
On the surface that may be a redeeming feature, but Gall sees a lack of depth and a certain level of phoniness with Northcutt.
“There doesn’t seem to be a lot of genuineness with him.” Gall said. “I would say he’s a little corny, a little dorky. He is a young kid. I’m sure he will figure out his own way. He’s a nice kid. There is no doubt about that. As a fighter he is very explosive. He almost has too many muscles. He can present problems but I see the fight going well for me.”

The sport has seen it fair share of fighters with 'killer' nicknames.
We have been witness to a man known as the killer of Gracies. A number fighters were known as legend killers as well as numerous other fighters with a laundry list of murderous monikers. With a dominating victory in this scrap Gall would be headed to securing his rightful place as the killer of hype.
It is a name he's more than happy to take on and Gall will keep looking for bigger fish in the UFC welterweight waters.
“I have heard that, too.” Gall said. “The hype killer. That’s cool. These are big fights. They are fights with guys with bigger names than me. I get to go in there and beat them up. I punch them up. C.M. Punk has a bigger name than me. Sage has a bigger name than me. I want to take out those guys and eat some of that star power.”
The bright lights and huge stage were no sweat for Gall at UFC 203. He stepped onto the biggest stage and into the biggest fight of his young career and made his much more famous opponent C.M. Punk look like he had no business stepping foot in the Octagon in the first place. The undefeated submission specialist relishes those monumental moments that might make other young fighters catch a case of the Octagon jitters.
“It felt great.” Gall said. “I love the lights. I love performing in front of the people. I step up for those type of events. I feel amazing on nights like that. Those peak moments, I love it. I am going to feel that again Saturday.
“When you get on the mic and they ask you ‘What’s next?’ and guys say ‘Whoever they give me.’ Have an answer for that. Put your two cents in. Get the crowd excited. Get the people excited, make the want it. That’s your chance to control your destiny a little bit.”
Regardless of the outcome of the high profile fight this weekend one this is for certain, the 24-year old Gall will not be returning to his previous job behind the wheel of a box truck as a delivery man.
“I drove a bread truck for a bakery company.” Gall said. “It was during college to make some money for school and to be able to train all the time and have a little money in my pocket. I am retired, which I am happy about. I am a retired bread truck driver. I am out of the bread truck game."
