SUG 2: Jessica Eye Career Highlights
Relive the best moments of Jessica Eye's career ahead of her Submission Underground 2 matchup against Miesha Tate.
Jessica 'Evil' Eye has had a tough time of late in Ultimate Fighting Championship, but Dec. 11, she gets the chance to put that all to one side when she faces the former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate at Submission Underground 2.
Eye's professional career began back in 2010 and she's fought across multiple organizations including UFC, Bellator MMA and NAAFS. Her career has had its highs and lows, but here are some of the better moments Eye has enjoyed inside the mixed martial arts cage.
It took Eye just three professional fights to win her first major mixed martial arts title and it was a big one at the New Jersey based promotion, Ring of Combat.
Eye defeated the then champion Ashley Nee in what turned out to be a great back and forth contest that all played out inside the first round.
After starting the contest well and dominating the opening stand up exchanges, Eye was put on the back foot by Nee and was forced to dig deep after the champion rallied back well. With Eye seemingly tiring, she somehow pulled it out the bag in the final few moments of the first round and won the contest by TKO after pushing Nee up against the fence and landing some vicious knees to the body. It was a great win and showed Eye's resilience and ability to overcome adversity.
One of the most impressive wins of Jessica Eye's career came in her Bellator MMA days when she faced Zoila Gurgel at Bellator 83.
At the time, Gurgel was the first and only Bellator MMA women's champion and was the heavy favorite heading into the fight. Eye, who was riding a five-fight win streak at the time had different ideas though.
From the opening bell, Eye dominated the contest and repeatedly punished Gurgel in the standup. Having not let the champion get a look in the contest, Eye finished the bout after just 58-seconds with an impressive arm-triangle choke. It was Eye's biggest win at the time and really put her name amongst the elite of women's MMA.
Such was the gruesomeness of the injury suffered by Leslie Smith at UFC 180, it's often forgotten that it was Jessica Eye who was standing opposite her in the Octagon that evening.
Those who aren't so good with blood or gore do not wanting to be googling this fight, but it does go to show youngsters and fellow combat sport professionals the importance of getting a cauliflower ear drained.
The fight took place in Mexico City, Mexico and the two women were enjoying a back-and-forth contest mostly fought on the feet. After three minutes and thirty seconds of the second round, Eye landed a punch to the ear of Smith and blood instantly spurt upwards from Smith's left ear. The punch ruptured Smith's cauliflower ear and had opened a massive hole between her ear and her skull.

While many reached for the sick buckets in the arena and at home, Smith bravely requested to fight on despite her gruesome injury. Luckily, the nearby doctor at cageside stepped in and ruled the fight was over. Eye had her first victory inside the UFC Octagon in the craziest way imaginable.
