Miesha Tate Retires Following Loss at UFC 205
Former UFC women's bantamweight champion Miesha Tate retires from fighting.
Miesha Tate shocked the MMA world on Saturday night at UFC 205.
The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion would probably have liked her performance to be what people will be talking about after the UFC’s debut in New York City, but it will be her post-fight interview with Joe Rogan that resonates.
Following her unanimous decision loss to Raquel Pennington to kick off the pay-per-view portion of the card at Madison Square Garden, Tate announced to the world she was officially retiring from MMA. The Washington state native issued a few heartfelt words to fans and her opponent, but doubled down on her exit from MMA.
When Rogan pressed if the outcome was her motive, Tate confirmed the loss was the reason for her departure.
“I had more to give in there, but I just couldn’t pull it out,” Tate said. “I’ll love this sport forever but this isn’t my time anymore.”
Tate’s sudden announcement certainly could have been a post-fight emotional turn, but if she does officially walk away, the former titleholder will certainly be remembered. Tate has held sway as one of the biggest female stars in the sport, and has made her mark on the biggest stages the sport had to offer.
