Conor McGregor: 'It's Going to End Early and It's Going to be Devastating'
Conor McGregor has kept well away from the media ever since the UFC 205 press conference in New York four weeks ago, but yesterday he took part in a Q&A session on the LadsBible Facebook page.
The Irishman talked across a number of different subjects both light-hearted and serious. Of course, it didn’t take long for the topic of conversation to turn to his fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 and McGregor began with discussing how his preparations had been going ahead of the big fight.
“The last fight I trained very specific,” McGregor said. “Six foot, tall, rangy southpaws in the middleweight to light heavyweight range, that’s who I trained with for the last contest. For this one, we’ve gone back to five foot seven, stocky, stuffed wrestlers with mediocre boxing—that’s what I’m going up against.
“We’ve got solid wrestlers. That is a body type that is very easily found. I’ve been facing this sort of opponent, the body type, the attacks and that style my whole life so it’s easy. It’s a lot better for me. It’s handy. I don’t have to source out these taller, southpaw guys that react in certain ways. There are a million opponents that replicate this next opponent’s style.”
McGregor then implied that while his sparring partners body shapes may have changed, he was still focusing on busing up his endurance and fitness levels like he had done ahead of his rematch with Diaz in August.
“We’ve continued on the cardio vascular training I’ve been doing and monitored that closely,” he continued. “Now that my body fat is dropping I’m getting a lot leaner. I’m making 155 pounds [this time], before I was making 170 pounds and I was stuffing my face to get to 168. Now I’m at 155 I’m shredding out nicely and I find that my V02 max has improved very much so. I’m feeling good.”
When asked what problems he expected the UFC lightweight champion to give him, McGregor was short and to the point.
“I don’t think he poses any threat,” McGregor said. “He’s a tough kid. He’s got some good fights, some good experience. I’m expecting to come in and fight with his heart, but I don’t see it going well for him. I see him unconscious.
“My fist is bigger than his head. I will plant him with a shot and goodnight. I feel it’s going to end early and It’s going to be devastating.”
McGregor was then asked about whether he’d planned to start the mental war game with Alvarez at the press conference in New York. The Irishman had a surprising answer and claimed that he’d never set out that day to go after anyone on the stage that day.
“This is the fight business; I’m not thinking go out there and commit psychological warfare,” McGregor said. “That last press conference I wanted to go out a little different even. I walked in there happy, positivity. I’m set for life. My family will never go hungry. I wanted to go up there and enjoy it and then they come at me. The whole lot of them. If they want to come at me. You want to come at the king you better be prepared because the king will come take you out.
“It’s all fair in this business. Anything goes in this game. It’s a ruthless business and I am the most ruthless.”
As he’d implied previously, McGregor said that fighting in New York would be like fighting on home soil. The Dubliner proceeded to make a bold claim that no doubt will not have sat too well with Alvarez.
“New York is mine,” McGregor said. “The Irish built New York. We run the entire East Coast. Where Eddie is actually from, Philadelphia, the Irish have been running Philadelphia for a long time. The Irish mafia has strong links in there. I know he knows about my people. I know he knows about who we are. It’s an honor to fight on my home soil.”
Different bodies, not different training

Predicting to leave Alvarez cold in MSG

I'm a nice guy really
