Dana White Says Jose Aldo Being Ridiculous, Suggests Holloway or Pettis
UFC President Dana White believes Jose Aldo is being unrealistic about the situation in front of him.
The world may be counting down the days until Conor McGregor versus Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, but one man watches on from the sidelines disgusted--Jose Aldo.
Having earlier this week requested a meeting with UFC officials to work on his release from the company, the Brazilian was a topic of discussion on this week's "UFC Tonight." UFC President Dana White explained why Aldo wasn't granted his rematch with McGregor, and in typical fashion White didn't pull any punches.
"I can't make anybody fight anybody," White said. "I can do the best I can to put together fights and make them happen. Jose Aldo and I will get together next week and we will talk about this. I think he's being a little ridiculous about this. I'll get him a fight; I'll get him a fight all day long. Just look at that division, it's stacked. (Max) Holloway is ready, and he wants to fight him. Anthony Pettis is in that division right now.
"There are a lot of talented guys there that he can fight. I can't make Conor McGregor fight anybody. Obviously, everybody wants to fight [Conor], I'm waiting for Joanna Jedrzejczyk to call out Conor McGregor next. Everybody wants to fight Conor."
White the explained in more detail why he believes the Brazilian is upset with him. The UFC president said it has nothing to do with McGregor being given more liberties as a champion than Aldo had previously.
"When Aldo was doing it, he never wanted to do those things," White said when asked if Aldo had previously asked to challenge for the lightweight belt when he was the featherweight champion. "I'm the guy who has stood in front of everyone in this sport at one time or another when a fight has pulled out a week before and let me tell you what, no one acts the way Conor McGregor acts when a fight pulls out.
"Normally when a guy has so much to lose, everyone is afraid to lose it and nobody wants to take a risk--this guy [McGregor] just goes all in. It's part of the appeal and the allure of Conor McGregor. Everyone can be mad and everyone can cry, but when you step up and you fight the way this guy fights and you put all your chips on the table--nobody does it."
Despite his appreciation for McGregor and his willingness to step up, White did confirm that after UFC 205 McGregor would be dropping one if his titles.
"He will fight and if he wins, he'll hold two belts," said White. "Then he will decide which one he wants to give back to me. He can't hold both. He'll have accomplished this and then he will have to figure out which he wants to give up. He can't hold up two divisions."
