If you want to get paid the most then be prepared to be fined the most.

On Monday, the Nevada State Athletic commission unanimously voted to hand reigning UFC featherweight Conor McGregor a $150,000 fine along with 50 hours of community for his role in the now infamous UFC 202 press conference melee in August.

Yes, you read that right. Professional cage fighter Conor McGregor will have to pay $150,000 for throwing water bottles at Nate Diaz, a fellow cage fighter, in the David Copperfield theater.

Combine that with the fact he’ll also have to spend 10% of his community service hours filming a public service announcement against bullying (What?) and fight fans are left scratching their heads at the commission.

But while the punishment may be ridiculous, especially for the “crime” committed, it should be far from unexpected. Remember when Nick Diaz spent 18 months on suspension for an alleged marijuana violation the NAC couldn't even prove was real? Or when they tried to hand Wanderlei Silva a LIFETIME BAN for running from a random drug test?

Why do you do what you do NAC?

The exact amount McGregor will be forced to fork over for incident will most certainly cause most casual fans to drop their jaws in amazement. But let’s not forget the Irishman became the UFC’s first three million-dollar man at UFC 202. Needless to say, McGregor is not hurting for money, as he’s more than happy to remind everyone.

Let’s fact check his most recent tweet shall we?

UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes made just $100,000 for her first round destruction of Miesha Tate at UFC 200. Even more ludicrous is the fact McGregor’s next opponent, lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, made $150,000 for his title victory over Rafael dos Anjos. That’s right folks, Alvarez got paid the same amount McGregor got fined.

The $150,000 fine is astronomically foolish for simply chucking a couple water bottles. That much is certain, but the average fighter will never see than much money paid out in their UFC career. And McGregor is anything but average.

He’s an over the top fighter with an over the top lifestyle. So it’s only fitting he receives an over the top fine. Everyone knows McGregor will use this to his marketing advantage as he continuously points to the fact he’s fined more than most fighters make in their life.

So when you say $150,000 for throwing water, keep in mind it’s only 5% of McGregor’s  (the man posing next to the Rolls Royce) UFC 202 purse.

As McGregor most eloquently puts it: “If you ain't Mackin’ you ain't stackin”

Side note: In just three years Conor McGregor is already less than $150,000 away from surpassing Anderson Silva as the highest earning UFC fighter of all-time

1 Anderson Silva $6,002,000
2 Conor McGregor $5,952,000
3 Michael Bisping $5,835,000
4 Brock Lesnar $5,375,000
5 Georges St-Pierre $4,457,000
