Danny Roberts Confident He Will Expose Mike Perry at UFC 204
Danny Roberts hears the verbal jabs from his UFC 204 opponent, Mike Perry. And they don't bother him one bit.
At UFC 204 this weekend, the UFC Fight Pass Prelims will be headlined by Danny Roberts and Mike Perry, a battle of two highly rated up-and-coming welterweights.
In the lead up to the fight, Perry has taken several stabs at his British opponent in the media, including an explosive interview with FloCombat where he sent the chilling warning, "I'm going to kill you; be ready to die."
In comparison, Roberts has maintained a relatively low profile and kept mostly silent the past few weeks. Just days away from the fight, the British prospect explained to WhoaTV exactly why he'd been keeping his silence.
"This guy has been feeding me, this whole camp, he's been feeding me," Roberts said. "He's been talking a lot of bad words and had a lot of controversial stuff to say. Ultimately for me, I'm a humble guy in pursuit of what I want for myself, my family and my future.
"There's no qualms coming from me. I'm not looking to have any animosity towards any other athletes, and I've the utmost respect for anyone and what we do. At the same time, the way this guy has carried on, it's not professional, and like I say, it just feeds me and motivates me. He's given me a real reason to fight, and giving me a real reason to fight is dangerous."
While Perry hasn't shied away from letting Roberts know what is in store for him on Saturday night, the Brit says he won't respond–verbally. His talking will instead be done inside the Octagon.
"It's all negative, derogative stuff," Roberts said. "He's talking to everyone, and there's no positive stuff coming out of the kid's mouth. Everything is just about trying to bring everyone down around him, he doesn't give a crap about anyone. Yeah, everyone is entitled to be who they want to be--so be it.

"At the same time, with what we do and who we are, you aren't proving anything to anyone. The fight comes when we get in the cage, and as I said earlier on, your words don't carry any weight, so the fists are going to do the talking and we are going to see what is going to happen."
Roberts believes that Perry is trying to use the media to throw him off mentally before the fight. Regardless, the Blackzilians man promises to end the American's current win streak and do it by finishing him inside the distance.

"I already see that's the reason behind a lot of things that are going on right now," Roberts said. "I'm smarter than that, so if anyone wants to just look at me as an athlete and see what I can do and my capabilities, you will see that I'm well-rounded and that I can take the fight to anyone at any end of the spectrum. With my heart and determination, the fight won't be going the distance, and it can end any way. I'm ready wherever the fight goes.
"I see myself picking this guy apart and when the time comes I'm going to exploit him, and when I'm going to exploit him it's going to be over--it's not going to last the distance."
