CM Punk: Conor McGregor 'Worked' Ric Flair and Other WWE Stars
CM Punk believes his former co-workers at WWE were successfully baited by UFC superstar Conor McGregor
CM Punk might be making his long anticipated mixed martial arts debut at UFC 203 next month but it's likely he will never escape having to answer questions about his WWE past.
Speaking today on the Hot 97 Radio show, Punk was asked about the recent comments directed at his former WWE colleagues by Conor McGregor. Punk seemed a little uneasy answering at first but then threw out a few jabs of his own.
"Listen, there are tough guys in wrestling," Punk said. "You have to be tough to be in wrestling and you have to be tough to be in that locker room. But, perhaps no more. It's a different world and it's a different business not only from when I started but from when I was there.
"I think the thing that shocked me the most about what Conor said was the number of people that work there [WWE] that responded to him and who should know better. I don't feel they got worked—I know they got worked.
The former pro wrestling star then made mention to a particular WWE Hall Of Famer but maintained that he wasn't taking particularly aim at just the members of the WWE roster.
"I mean Ric Flair? Come on just stop," Punk said. "Just knock it off you know. Like, volunteering guys to fight Conor—and it's across the board it's not just the WWE guys so I don't want anybody f******* saying I was harping on WWE guys because I'm not. It's just embarrassing, like fighting with anybody on Twitter you know."
When asked about what his plans would be after making his MMA debut at UFC 203, Punk was non-committal and instead said that he would wait to see what happens on the night before deciding what his long term future would be.
"I think a huge part of my will want to keep the training rolling and just get another on as soon I can, but I think another part of me will just want to watch Cubs games," Punk said. "It all hinges on that night and honestly, there's no assuming--I'm going to win. I've never been so confident about anything in my whole entire life.
"I'll probably sit on the beach a little bit, I'll probably take a little vacation with the wife but I'll probably get bored real quick and like I said, I'll probably just want to keep going and get the second fight on as soon as I can."
