Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz: 5 Big Questions Heading into UFC 202
Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz part two goes down in less than one week, Aug. 20, at UFC 202.

Soon, we will have answers to many of the questions we've been asking ourselves ever since Diaz's historic victory over McGregor at UFC 196 back in March. Here are burning five issues that will soon be extinguished.

#5 - Will the Irish turn up?

It's fair to say the buzz right now from the Irish side isn't the same as it was prior to McGregor's last fights. There's a myriad of reasons for this, but let's point out a few. First, consider the price of getting from Ireland to Las Vegas so many times a year. That's not cheap. Then, consider the proximity of the fight to other major sporting events that the Irish have traveled for, such as UFC 200, the Rio Olympics, European Football Championships, and more. Again, not cheap.

Looking at the amount of tickets left available and going by the online sentiment or "buzz," this isn't shaping up to be an Irish invasion like we've become accustomed to.

#4 - 170 pounds for real?

Both fighters might be aiming to hit 170 pounds on the scales Friday, but it will be interesting to see whether none, one, or both will be cutting weight in the build up.

Going by the eye test, it would appear that McGregor is coming in lighter, while Diaz, according to McGregor at least, has been "enjoying himself" at around 200 pounds. No doubt UFC Embedded will give us some indication to both fighters' approach next week.

#3 - Full-camp Diaz vs. Full-camp McGregor

Much has been made of the fact that Diaz came in to face McGregor on just 11 days notice at UFC 196. In theory, Diaz should come into this fight a superior version of himself, having now had a full camp, but things are never that straightforward.

While it may be true that Diaz's preparations have been better, McGregor has had more time to prepare for a weight class he had never previously fought at before, too.

Now that both have had full camps for the fight at 170 pounds, who made the biggest gains? Common sense would tell you Diaz, but this is a game that rarely follows any logic.

#2 - Will they be able to top the UFC 196 fight week build up?

Back in March, every interview, every face-to-face and every press conference added another layer of intrigue. The chemistry between the two was fantastic, but the build up this time around feels more respectful and, if anything, a little forced.

The respect between the two is obvious. While there have been the odd quips, we've seen multiple instances of them talking the other up. From Diaz not choosing to fire on McGregor over his Cristiano Ronaldo PR stunt to McGregor mentioning multiples times that he respects the way Diaz gave him his rematch, it's clear the attitudes have shifted a touch going into UFC 202.

Can they ramp it up during fight week? Do they even want to?

#1 - Best out of three?

This a different way to phrase the obvious: Who's going to win? The logic is simple. If McGregor wins, we get the rubber match down the line. If Diaz wins again, the odds are on us never seeing the two fight again.

Of course, there are gray areas that can arise which could see them go at it again whatever the result (controversy, injury etc), but the likelihood is that whatever happens in the Octagon Saturday night will determine the future of these two.

With so many lingering questions—and still others not included in this list—one thing is certain: The UFC 202 fight week is going to be fun.
