Paige VanZant’s transition from the cage to the big screen continues as the strawweight lands movie role.
Paige VanZant’s transition from the cage to the big screen continues to pick up steam.
The scrappy strawweight became a media darling after to her recent stint on “Dancing With the Stars,” and now it looks like the California native’s schedule is going to get a bit more hectic.
VanZant will trade her dancing shoes for a movie role that was specifically written for her in “Kickboxer: Retaliation,” as first reported by Deadline.
Although production for the action franchise is underway, a date for VanZant to report to set has not yet been established. VanZant’s commitment will add starpower to the series Jean Claude Van Damme helped bring to the mainstream in 1989, and she is the latest MMA star to sign on to the series.
The most recent installment, “Kickboxer: Vengeance,” featured recently retired UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce poster girl Gina Carano.
VanZant last competed inside the Octagon in late 2015, but her absence from the fight game has been filled by her sensational turn on “Dancing with the Stars,” where she’s a finalist. While VanZant’s next showing under the UFC banner is to be determined, Fox Sport’s Damon Martin reported her return to the cage should come sometime this summer.
