Ben Rothwell suffered a knee injury that has forced him out of his bout with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 203
It looks like Ben Rothwell’s quest to get back into title contention will be put on hold for a bit longer.
According to a report by MMA Junkie on Thursday, the heavyweight veteran suffered a knee injury, which forced him to withdraw from his bout with Fabricio Werdum in the co-main event at UFC 203 on Sept. 10 in Cleveland, OH.
While there has yet to be an official replacement announced, the report did confirm the UFC will be seeking another opponent for Werdum.
Both Rothwell and Werdum were set to come into the bout seeking redemption for recent losses. The Wisconsin native had a four-fight winning streak halted at the hands of former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 86.
Werdum’s most recent setback came with heavier stakes as the Brazilian grappling ace suffered a knockout against Stipe Miocic in the first round of their bout at UFC 198.
