FloCombat got a taste of the future of MMA Friday evening, as 559 Fights 62 brought a slate of high-action amateur bouts live to fans across the globe Feb. 2.
The main event saw a champion vs. champion bout with the undefeated (4-0) welterweight king Chris Avalos taking on 6-2 lightweight champ Yuni Valencia.
Avalos made quick work of Valencia, using his size to secure mount after an early takedown. Avalos threw bombs from the top, and Valencia had no answers, forcing the referee to step in. With that win, Avalos stays undefeated as an amateur and defends his 170-pound title.
In the co-main event, the CAMO Bantamweight title was on the line, as the undefeated Isaiah Rocha took on David Solorzano.
Trained by The Pit, Rocha relied heavily on his counter striking and found his range in the clinch, an area which Solorzano had zero answers for. Rocha took Solorzano down in the final round and held him there while alternating between ground-and-pound and guard passes.
Rocha then threw some axe kicks in frustration against his opponent with 10 seconds left in the round. Ultimately, the judges scored it a unanimous decision in Rocha’s favor. He stays undefeated and will take home a little hardware for his efforts.
