Askren looked to put the final touches on what had been a flawless career when he faced Against former ONE lightweight champion Shinya Aoki in Singapore.

And that’s exactly how it will be remembered.

“Funky” closed the distance in a hurry, but it was Aoki who attempted to pull guard. Askren picked “Tobikan Judan” up off the ground before slamming him back to the canvas with force. Several punches from the top later and Aoki turtled up without defense and the referee was forced to step in.

With the win, Askren will retire 18-0 with one no-contest on his record and go down as one of the most dominant and best — if not the very best — welterweight of his day.
