UFC 221 wasn’t the only mixed martial arts action that took place on Saturday evening. 

One of Kentucky and Ohio's finest MMA promotions, Premier MMA Championship (PMMAC), returned for the sixth event in the promotion's history.  

PMMAC 6 took place at Radisson Cincinnati Riverfront in Covington, Kentucky, and featured some of the region’s best amateur fighters, as well as a professional headlining bout.

The night’s headliner was a professional bout between Ohio’s Cody Gabelman (5-3) and Indiana’s Michael Shields (3-8).  Fight fans didn’t have to wait long for a finish in this one, as Shields was able to tap Gabelman from the bottom late in the first round.  The submission came by way of an armbar that looked unassuming initially but turned vicious as the seconds wound down in the round.  

With the victory, Shields snaps a three-fight losing streak.

An amateur title was on the in the night’s co-main event as featherweights David Rankin (10-0) and Jake Kools (5-2) threw down in an exciting, high-paced bout.  

Both men had their moments with submissions and transitions galore.  With ten seconds left in the round, Rankin managed to shoot up a slick armbar, lock it in, and advance to 10-0 as a result.  Great respect was shown by both men following the conclusion of the bout.
