The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to England Saturday afternoon for UFC Fight Night 127 at London’s The O2.
It was an action-packed night full of finishes, including two stoppages at 4:49 in the third round.
Dmitriy Sosnovsky kicked off the show with a rear-naked choke in his UFC debut, before Paul Craig pulled off a stunning triangle over Magomed Ankalaev after being dominated for the entire fight. Danny Henry, Danny Roberts, Charles Byrd and Leon Edwards also scored stoppage victories of their own.
In the main event, heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov went toe-to-toe.
Werdum came out with a flying knee before making an immediate level change and putting Volkov on his back to eliminate the 6-foot-7 fighter’s reach advantage. Werdum began raining down some ground-and-pound from inside of Volkov’s guard, but Volkov was able to get back to his feet and tagged the Werdum briefly before getting taken back to the mat.
For the remainder of the fight, Werdum was a one-dimensional fighter, desperately searching for a takedown. He was able to get Volkov to the mat multiple times, but failed to capitalize on his advantage. Instead, it was Volkov who was able to play to his strength and scored a devastating knockout over the former champion in the fourth round.
