It’s been two years since the MMA world was graced by Mike “The Truth” Jackson.

His booming personality and top-notch mic skills helped him bring his 0-0 record to the UFC as the brass dangled a fight with Phil “CM Punk” Brooks in front of him.

While that fight never materialized due to Jackson’s loss at UFC Fight Night 82 in February 2016 to Mickey Gall, who went on to also submit Brooks later that year, it looks as if a scrap versus CM Punk may be on the horizon once again for "The Truth."

Earlier this month, rumors were floated that the UFC was looking at its June pay-per-view in Chicago, UFC 225, for a fight between the two.

Jackson sat down with Top Turtle MMA to talk about the possibility and what it all might look like.

“No contract has been signed," Jackson said. "I’m waiting to hear back from Phil and his camp."

However, according to Jackson, he isn’t the only one left in the dark. The powers that be at the UFC are also waiting to figure out what the former WWE star is up to.

“I’ve spoken to Mick Maynard, who is a close personal friend of mine as well as the UFC matchmaker, and he kind of doesn’t know what’s going on at this time with (CM) Punk," Jackson said.

Despite his curiosity, there’s no rush on Jackson’s side. The potential fight wouldn’t be for months, and that gives him plenty of time to get ready.

“I’m always training," Jackson said. "I'm not just a guy who’s just coming off the couch as far as training goes. [But] definitely when the fight is signed and ready to go, the training will ramp up.”

From the sounds of it, his training is already pretty intense, as Jackson worked in rounds with recent UFC Austin winner Derrick Lewis as he prepared for Marcin Tybura. While those rounds provide valuable experience and learning, Jackson knows going toe-to-toe with the hulking heavyweight regularly isn't sustainable.

“I can only do so many rounds with Derrick Lewis sparring," Jackson said. "I need to get my own camp… I can’t give him too much — he’s a big guy. *laughs*”

Regardless of his training methods, Jackson doesn’t see Punk as any kind of real threat. There are just too many factors that go into MMA, and Punk is too late to the game in Jackson's eyes.

“[His fight with Gall] went exactly how I expected it to go,” Jackson said. “In a year’s time, you can only learn so much.”

And it’s that fact that leaves Jackson supremely confident that if the fight does take place, he’ll have the upper hand.

“[Brooks is] really getting a crash course, and I feel that, unless you’re some crazy prodigy, like a young BJ Penn, the chances of you picking up different facets of the game to compete with someone — even on my level — it’s very slim,” Jackson said.

On top of that, he cites other factors as to why it’s unlikely Brooks will make up the large skills gap.

“Then you add in the fact that he’s pushing 40,” Jackson said. “And then, the other variables that people don’t even consider, is the wear and tear that professional wrestling puts on a man’s body.”

Although the fight is far from a done deal, it would appear Jackson already has it mapped out — and if he's right, CM Punk would have a sparkly 0-2 record to take home with him on fight night.
