Conor McGregor 'In Negotiation Stage,' Wants Floyd Mayweather Rematch
Conor McGregor provides a brief update on his fighting future during the Best of Ireland Gala in New York City.
UFC lightweight champion and combat sports mega-star Conor McGregor was honored Wednesday evening at the Best of Ireland Gala in New York City for his continued charitable support of children's hospitals in Ireland.
As is tradition with anything involving McGregor, cameras followed, and multiple clips of the event surfaced on social media. Throughout the event, McGregor seemed in incredibly high spirits, and he flashed his "old" self, being gracious and truly appreciative of the honor bestowed upon him.
And while the event technically had little to do with his fighting career directly, McGregor did offer a nugget for MMA fans.
"I'm currently in [the] negotiation stage," McGregor said. "The opponent — there are multiple opponents on the platform. Of course, I would love to get that one [Floyd Mayweather] back. I felt I went into his realm, and I felt handy early on. He had to wait for me to get tired."
McGregor lost his boxing matchup vs. Mayweather via 10th-round TKO in August.
All this is far from official, but it does at least indicate McGregor is nearing in on a return. Discussions are open, and he's weighing his options — including a rematch with Mayweather, seemingly inside the UFC Octagon.
That sounds impossible, but this is 2018 in the world of MMA, friends. The titles are made up and the merit doesn't matter.
Buckle up.
