Darren Elkins: The Damage Is Never Done
Darren Elkins: The Damage Is Never Done
What will it take to stop UFC featherweight Darren Elkins? Secret Moves MMA dissects "The Damage" in his last MMA-themed comic.
UFC featherweight Darren Elkins is more than human.
The No. 9-ranked 145-pound fighter in the UFC, Elkins has rattled off six straight wins, catapulting his stock and growing his legend each and every time out.
And about that legend...
Dubbed "The Damage," Elkins receives punches, kicks, knees, and elbows at a steady clip -- but he's always there, smiling, lurking, waiting to dish it right back.
His heart, particularly in his UFC 209 scrap vs. Mirsad Bektic last March and, more recently, at UFC Fight Night 124 vs. Michael Johnson on Jan. 14, is downright ridiculous.
Against Bektic, Elkins ate 141 strikes in Rounds 1 and 2, getting bloodied and battered from the jump. Ditto for his fight vs. Johnson, during which Elkins absorbed 43 strikes — all significant — and was forced onto his heels for the entirety of the opening frame.
But "The Damage" finds a way. He always finds a way.
In a stunning turnaround, Elkins dug deep and smashed Bektic in the final round of their UFC 209 affair for a TKO victory, winning a Performance of the Night bonus and the hearts of fans across the globe in the process.
Against Johnson, Elkins engaged Damage mode a touch earlier, taking his foe down in Round 2 and overwhelming him with a ground assault that included two guard passes and one submission attempt — the only one he'd need to score the rear-naked choke.
Victory from the jaws of defeat once more.
At this point, one has to wonder... What will it take to stop this reborn version of Darren Elkins?
Maybe nothing can.
