Conor McGregor appears to be working on his ground game, potentially pointing to a return to MMA.
Well, this is certainly not any boxing technique we've ever seen.
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor took to Instagram on Sunday evening to post a little somethin'-somethin' for his fans.
Two days ago, McGregor posted a similar picture, in which he was seen working with Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Paulo Miyao.
Now, these are just two Instagram posts. McGregor practicing his ground game doesn't mean he's definitely returning to MMA. Nor does it mean he's actively preparing for that return.
However, coupled with McGregor's latest statements to TMZ that he wants a "real fight" and plans "MMA next," fans have reason to get excited.
McGregor last fought in August, when he boxed undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., losing that fight via 10th-round TKO.
MMA fans last saw McGregor inside the UFC Octagon in November 2016, when he defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to capture the UFC lightweight title. At the time, McGregor was also the UFC's featherweight king, making him the first-ever fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.
Since then, McGregor has been stripped of his featherweight title and Tony Ferguson earned the interim lightweight title, making the landscape much different than when the Irish superstar last left it.
As of now, there's no indication when, where, or how McGregor will return, but one thing is certain: The world will be watching.
