Jonathan Pearce Looks To Keep Rolling At Strikefest 2
Jonathan Pearce Looks To Keep Rolling At Strikefest 2
Highly touted prospect Jonathan Pearce returns at Strikefest 2 Saturday night on FloCombat.
Few promotions push to bring exciting new endeavors and stacked cards on the regional circuit the way Valor Fights has been known to do. Front man Tim Loy and company aren’t afraid to cross-promote and put their fighters against the best from other regions, and Saturday night’s Strikefest 2 in Nashville, TN, will put some of Valor’s top up-and-coming talent in the spotlight.
The card kicks off Saturday night at 6 EDT and streams exclusively on FloCombat.
Let’s take a look at some of the action from Strikefest 2.
You Down With JSP? It’s Time To Start
Jonathan Pearce is a bad, bad man when the cage door closes.
The 25-year-old lightweight has been on a tear of late and doing it under the brightest spotlight of his young career.
After suffering through an uncharacteristic rough patch, Pearce rebounded in an ultra-strong manner as he notched back-to-back victories over tough competition. Perhaps even more impressive, Pearce earned both of those wins while competing under the Bellator banner.
Pearce faced and defeated fighters not many have been willing to step up and face in Damir Ferhatbegovic and Omar Johnson. Pearce not only stepped up to face those men but also finished both in impressive fashion. Those are the types of performances that build serious momentum and earn attention from the biggest leagues in the sport.
And if Pearce can keep his winning ways rolling against Nick Baker on Saturday night, the Tennessee native could very well find himself with a full-time spot at one of the big shows.
Furthermore, Pearce brings a nasty tool box filled with dangerous weapons with him each and every time he steps into the cage. Pearce can finish you on the feet from a variety of angles and has the capability of putting you to sleep once the action hits the canvas. Fellow prospect Baker will need to be on top of his game to survive what Pearce brings on Saturday night, but that’s what makes bouts worth watching.
Main Event Ruckus
When two fighters with reputations for full-throttled scrapping get locked inside the cage, fireworks are all but guaranteed. Lucky for fight fans tuning into Strikefest 2, both Steven New and Nathan Williams are known for doing just that.
Williams has been wrecking shop as of late as he’s notched back-to-back victories in his most recent outings, with each of those wins coming by way of finish. Those performances sparked a solid turnaround for Williams, as it broke him out of a rough patch that saw him drop two consecutive fights.
The Georgia native will be looking to keep his streak alive on Saturday night and spoil New’s long-awaited return to action.
New has been a staple of Valor Fights since the promotion’s inception, but the veteran has been out of action for more than a year. His last showing ended in a lightning-quick submission loss to stud lightweight Nick Gherts at Valor Fights 32, which served to snap a five-fight winning streak.
The Tennessee native will be looking to return to his winning ways, and he’ll have a tough fight on his hands in “Nasty” Nate on Saturday night. Nevertheless, should New tap back into his ability to dole out punishment, he has the potential to pick up a huge victory at Strikefest 2.
Muay Thai Madness
You can't have an event named "Strikefest" without guaranteeing the hands and feet will fly, and Muay Thai bouts are a surefire way to provide exactly that.
Five of the fights on the 12-bout card will feature Muay Thai matchups that are set to showcase some of the best up-and-coming strikers the Southeast region has to offer. They call it "The Art of Eight Limbs" for a reason, and it's a good bet some spinning backfists and phone booth elbows will find a home on Saturday night.
