In one of the most highly anticipated heavyweight title fight in years, champion Stipe Miocic will put his title on the line against Francis Ngannou in the main event for UFC 220 in Boston on Jan. 20.
Sources close to the matchup confirmed the news to FloCombat on Wednesday with verbal agreements in place and bout agreements expected to be issued in the next couple of days. MMAJunkie initially reported the fight.
Miocic will attempt to break the all-time record for title defenses in UFC heavyweight history with his third consecutive victory since winning the belt after defeating Alistair Overeem in 2016 and Junior dos Santos earlier this year.
The Ohio native has recorded five straight wins in a row all by knockout or TKO, and now he will face one of the most ferocious power punchers to ever appear in the UFC Octagon.
Ngannou has looked unstoppable since first arriving in the UFC while recording six straight wins including his vicious one punch knockout against Overeem this past Saturday at UFC 218 in Detroit.
Now Ngannou will get his first shot at gold as he faces Miocic in Boston as the new headliner for UFC 220, with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier taking on Volkan Oezdemir in the co-main event on the card.
