UFC Lightweight Rips Ex-UFC Matchmaker: 'I’ll Slap That Napoleon Fu*k'

UFC Lightweight Rips Ex-UFC Matchmaker: 'I’ll Slap That Napoleon Fu*k'

UFC lightweight Chris Wade is pissed.

That much is perfectly clear after his Twitter tirade late Monday evening. Despite being well qualified, coming off a win, and boasting an impressive 5-2 record inside the Octagon, Wade (12-3 overall) apparently can't get a scrap, and that's causing him some problems.

After that three-piece combo, Wade dropped a baseball analogy to appeal to a wider audience and to establish some perspective.

He then turned back to the current quality of the 155-pound class, highlighting a specific example to further emphasize his point.

Wade saved his angriest outburst for last, zeroing in on former UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.

Speaking on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday, former UFC heavyweight and current Bellator contender Matt Mitrione dropped a bomb on Silva, claiming the promotion's matchmaker once intentionally deceived him so he would take a fight with Roy Nelson.

According to Mitrione, he was told by Silva that his December 2012 fight with Nelson would be contested in the large, full-size UFC Octagon, which is 30 feet in diameter. In reality, the promotion used a smaller, 25-foot diameter cage, something Mitrione has openly expressed his dislike for in the past.

Silva, however, denied those allegations, telling MMAFighting.com he had no reason to lie.

“It’s not impossible they made a mistake shipping the wrong Octagon,” Silva said. “It’s not impossible they could have given me the wrong information. I don’t even remember this incident in the first place — there was so much going on. But in a situation like that, I would get that information from the people who know and pass it on.”

Wade, however, clearly sides with Mitrione on this one.

After losing to Rustam Khabilov in May 2016, Wade said he initially declined a proposal by Silva to fight Islam Makhachev that September because Makhachev was coming off a provisional suspension by USADA for testing positive for meldonium. Wade said he only accepted the bout — which he ultimately lost via unanimous decision — when Silva threatened to cut him from the UFC roster.

Wade most recently defeated Frankie Perez via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 25 in July.
