ONE Championship founder, chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong took aim at the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the ONE: Immortal Pursuit Press Conference on Wednesday.
Sityodtong had harsh words for the top promotion in mixed martial arts, blasting the UFC and its fighters for transgressions out of the Octagon.
"The DNA of ONE Championship is martial arts, the whole martial arts in Asia, with Asian values, run by a martial artist," Sityodtong said, via MMAnytt.com. "Since Day 1, ONE Championship has always been about that. We've always been about celebrating, unity the continent celebrating what we are best at: martial arts and the values.
“Have we ever had any kind of scandal? They have weekly scandals; people in jail, people on drugs or cocaine … that is unacceptable in ONE Championship. My dream is for these heroes to have children all over Asia to have posters and their parents crowd because these athletes, our heroes, are honorable, dignified, respectable athletes, who are uniting the world with confidence, courage, hope, dreams and strength. That is what ONE Championship is about."
ONE Championship 65: Immortal Pursuit takes place on Nov. 24 at Singapore Indoor Stadium. In the main event, welterweight champion Ben Askren defends his title against former lightweight title holder Shinya Aoki.'
Askren (17-0, 1 NC) is set to retire following the event which will be available live on FloCombat.
