Featherweight champion Max Holloway will face a familiar foe in his first title defense.

Former champion Jose Aldo has landed a rematch with Holloway in the new main event at UFC 218 scheduled for Dec. 2 in Detroit.

Sources close to the matchup confirmed the fight to FloCombat following an initial report from MMAFighting.

Aldo gets the rematch after former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar was forced off the card due to injury last week. Almost immediately after news spread of Edgar dropping off the card, Aldo began campaigning that he wanted the fight.

It appears UFC officials were listening because with time running out until the event takes place, Aldo was given a second crack at Holloway after falling to him in June by third round TKO, which cost him the featherweight title.

UFC 218 will also feature a stacked undercard for the main event including a heavyweight showdown between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou as well as a battle between "Ultimate Fighter" coaches as Eddie Alvarez takes on Justin Gaethje.
