Derek Brunson Dusts Lyoto Machida At UFC Fight Night 119
Middleweight veteran Derek Brunson knocked out Lyoto Machida in the main event at UFC Fight Night 119.
Derek Brunson walked into enemy territory at UFC Fight Night 119 on Saturday in São Paulo.
Not only was the middleweight veteran fighting a Brazilian on his native soil but a beloved one in that in Lyoto Machida. "The Dragon" made his return to the Octagon after serving a two-year suspension and was eager to resume his hunt for a second divisional title.
However, a left hand from Brunson ended that hunt cold.
After a brief feeling-out period, the North Carolina native landed a big shot that wobbled the former light heavyweight champion. Brunson poured on the pressure and dropped Machida with a flurry before delivering a left hand on the ground that starched the karate-style fighter on the canvas at the 2:30 mark of the first round.
With the victory, Brunson not only picked up the biggest win of his career but also earned his second consecutive win in the process. Furthermore, Brunson will certainly earn a big name in his next bout, and his call-out to Luke Rockhold would certainly check that box.
Derek Brunson's last six wins? All first-round knockouts. That's impressive as hell.
