Did Conor McGregor Just Drop A Homophobic Slur?
Did Conor McGregor Just Drop A Homophobic Slur?
Conor McGregor consoles Artem Lobov after his defeat at UFC Gdansk, dropping some highly questionable wording in the process. Listen for yourself.
Artem Lobov was defeated by Andre Fili at UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland, on Saturday, but the story coming out of the fight quickly shifted to Conor McGregor.
As a longtime friend and training partner of Lobov, McGregor offered his encouragement and consolation post-defeat.
...But did he really say what it sounds like?
Via Twitter, @BTSportUFC posted a video, and it seems as though McGregor dropped off a homophobic slur. From the footage, McGregor seems to say, "He's a fa*got," mostly likely aimed toward Fili.
There are factors at play — potential cultural differences with the word, the emotions post-fight in defeat, etc. — but this seems like a clear error in judgement for the UFC lightweight champion and global superstar.
BT Sport deleted that video. But the internet is the internet, and @McDuckMMA captured McGregor's comments as well.
The UFC's official European account also posted a video from an alternate — and clearer — angle but immediately deleted it.
Multiple people say my ears (and eyes) didn't betray me. UFC's official clip had McGregor saying the gay slur 3 x's. https://t.co/yoZcmaZmY3
