Report: Conor McGregor Next Step UFC Return, Not Paulie Malignaggi Fight
UFC superstar Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon for next fight according to report from Yahoo's Kevin Iole.
Conor McGregor is the biggest star in mixed martial arts and one of the biggest names in all of combat sports.
After making a huge payday to cross over and box pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jr., all eyes are fixed on what the Irish superstar chooses as his next step. There have been various reports floating around on the SBG Ireland leader taking another boxing match or possibly stopping for a one-off with the WWE.
Per a report from Yahoo's Kevin Ioleon on Friday, all signs point to McGregor's next fight taking place inside the Octagon.
Multiple sources confirmed to Yahoo that McGregor will be returning to his old stomping grounds to defend his lightweight title. And while many fans have clamored to see a trilogy bout with Nate Diaz next, UFC President Dana White seems set on making a unification bout with current interim titleholder Tony Ferguson as McGregor's next move.
That said, McGregor has grown to be a businessman above all things, and nothing is ever final until the contracts are signed and a date established.
This news doesn't bode well for former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi, who had cooked up some notable beef with McGregor leading into his superfight with Mayweather. Malignaggi has been all over social media jockeying for the next shot at McGregor, but Yahoo's report appears to cancel out the New Yorker as a viable option.
