FloCombat Prospect Rankings - Flyweight - October 2017
FloCombat ranks the top 20 North American flyweight MMA prospects for October 2017.
Rankings based off the following....
October Notes
- Richie Santiago enters the rankings in the No. 16 spot.
Torres made history in his last fight, becoming the first multi-division champion in Titan FC history when he defeated bantamweight champion Farkhad Sharipov at Titan FC 44 in May. The current flyweight champion kept his undefeated record alive as he went the distance for just the second time in his career. He was slated to face Casey Kenney last month; however, the injuries Torres suffered from the Sharipov title fight prevented that from happening. "Shorty" boasts a win over UFC veteran Pedro Nobre and has won three of his five career fights by stoppage. Expect the 25-year-old to land a UFC contract in the near future.
#2-- Casey Kenney (7-1-1)
Despite Kenney suffering the first loss of his career -- a split-decision setback to Adam Antolin on Aug. 29 -- a sizable portion of fans and media alike felt the 26-year-old should have won that fight. This is why we have him ranked ahead of No. 3 Carlos Candelario. Unfortunately, the Arizona native Kenney has now failed to earn a UFC contract in his last two outings.
#3 -- Carlos Candelario (7-0)
Fans will likely remember "The Cannon" for his unanimous-decision victory over Jose Aldo's jiu-jitsu coach, Ronaldo Candido. Candelario trains at a number of different gyms but spends most of his time at Underdog MMA under the tutelage of CES featherweight champion Matt Bessette. Despite remaining undefeated, Candelario hasn't been offered a UFC contract.
#4 -- Manny Vazquez (11-3)
The former Legacy FC bantamweight champion Vazquez came up short in his flyweight debut against UFC veteran Joby Sanchez on July 11. The loss snapped the 23-year-old's two-fight winning streak and subsequently a shot at a UFC contract. The Illinois native boasts six wins by submission and is the youngest member in this top five.
The Factory-X standout Bice boasts impressive wins over LFA flyweight Zac Riley and UFC 125-pound fighter Eric Shelton. The lone loss on Bice's resume was via split decision to UFC veteran Pedro Nobre at Titan FC 38 last year. FloCombat subscribers will remember Bice as he earned a unanimous-decision victory over Cody Land at Sioux Falls Fight Night 1 in April. The 28-year-old Bice is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ken Porter on Aug. 18.
