Anthony Johnson Weighs In (Sort Of) On Jon Jones Steroid Scandal
Former UFC title challenger Anthony Johnson gives his thoughts on Jon Jones recent steroid scandal.
Anthony Johnson may have walked away from the fight game recently, but "Rumble's" presence still looms in the UFC light heavyweight ranks.
The hard-charging knockout artist dominated the large majority of competition he faced during his time in the 205-pound weight class, with former (and possibly renewed) champion Daniel Cormier as his only foil in that mix. "D.C." submitted Johnson both times they squared off, with the most recent loss at UFC 210 back in April being the one that urged Johnson to exit the sport.
With news surfacing of Jon Jones failing a drug test for his UFC 214 showdown with Cormier last month in Anaheim, CA, Johnson's take has been one many fans and pundits have been waiting to hear. On Wednesday night on Facebook, Johnson gave us just that.
"I've been getting asked left and right about [the] Jon Jones situation," Johnson wrote. "Well I'll say this...I learned from my mistakes when [the] UFC cut me the first time. I can't speak on if he'll ever learn but as far as fight results, steroids will make you bigger, faster, stronger but not your IQ...Jon cheated but his fight IQ was still sharp! He set D.C. up for that head kick by doing the low kicks and liver kicks. Think about that for a second..."
While Johnson doesn't seem to be saying he agrees with the situation as a whole, he is saying the skills Jones used to level Cormier were set in motion by a high fight IQ that was still intact. And whatever that means we're not exactly sure because there are levels to every game. Just ask Kendrick Lamar.
